After an excessively dry and humid summer, recent rains have disrupted harvest of the 120,000 acres of rice planted in Lawrence County.

"Harvest was going pretty fast," said Minturn farmer Jerry Eades. "The ground was dry and the yield was down, but now that the rains have hit it all just depends on the weather."
"This rain is going to delay the rice harvest," said Bruce Manning, who farms near Sedgwick.
WRFD honored at party/dinner
The Walnut Ridge City Council hosted a celebration on Aug. 31 in honor of the city's firemen and volunteer firemen's success in getting Walnut Ridge's ISO rating lowered from a Class V to a Class III.
Walnut Ridge Mayor Michelle Rogers announced on Friday that the city of Walnut Ridge has received a $103,000 Community Development Block Grant through the Arkansas Economic Development Commission. The grant is for drainage improvements on three city streets.
