Lady Cats open season with wins
Staff Writer The Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats volleyball team earned their second victory of the season with a win over conference foe Harrisburg Thursday at Sharum Gymnasium. After dropping the first game 22-25, the Lady Cats stormed back to win the next three 25-12, 25-15, 25-12. For Walnut Ridge, Ashley Baker had 37 digs. Beth Massey was 22-of-23 serving, with six aces. Christin Holsapple was 16-of-19 serving, with eight aces. Amanda Emison was 21-of-27 hitting, with five kills, while Katie Lewis was 13-of-19 hitting, with six kills. Lewis also had three blocks, including two solo blocks. Brittany Dobbs had a solo block. As a team, Walnut Ridge finished with 25 aces and 15 kills. With the win, the Lady Bobcats improved to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in 3A Northeast conference play.
The junior Lady Bobcats defeated Harrisburg 25-18, 25-18. Sabrina Knight was 10-13 serving, with seven aces, 16 digs and nine assists. Raven Dobbs had 13 digs. Caroline Kelley was 14-of-14 serving, with eight aces and finished 12-of-14 hitting, with eight kills.
Harrisburg won a junior high B match 18-15. For Walnut Ridge, Dylane Brown had four digs, and Stephann Petty had eight digs. Baylee Bridges went 11-of-13 serving, and Rebecca Russell was 4-of-5 serving.
The Lady Bobcat volleyball teams began the regular season by winning two-of-three matches from visiting Newport on Aug. 24. Walnut Ridge won the senior high match 25-17, 25-10, 25-9. Baker went 15-of-17 serving, with five aces, and had 28 digs. Ashton Lawson had 10 digs and eight assists. Lewis was 11-of-13 hitting, with five kills and six blocks, including two solos. Emison was 5-of-8 hitting, with four kills. Ashlyn Cothern had four assists.
Walnut Ridge won the junior high match 25-17, 25-14. Hannah Massey had 13 digs. Anna Bland was six-of-six serving and 12-of-14 hitting. Knight had 12 digs and eight assists. Dobbs was 10-of-14 serving, with four aces, and Kelley had two kills.
The Walnut Ridge junior B team fell to Newport 13-20. Tristan Simpson finished with seven digs, and Petty had eight digs. Bridges went eight-of-nine serving, while Brown was three-of-three serving.
