Group meets
to discuss
regional jail

Representatives of six counties met in Walnut Ridge last Wednesday to discuss the possibility of building a regional jail. Dan Ellison, Lawrence County sheriff, organized the meeting to discuss a remedy to the problem of overcrowded jails that is apparently being experienced area-wide.

Children's Shelter names administrator

The Children's Shelter Board has named Lisa Hufstedler of Bono as the new administrator of the Shelter. Hufstedler, a native of the Walnut Ridge area, will begin her duties on Sept. 7.

Authority's recruitment
of new industry on track

"At this time everything is right on track, and we have run into no obstacles so far," said Wayne Gearhart, chairman of the Northeast Arkansas Regional Intermodal Facilities Authority at the Authority's monthly meeting on Aug. 26 at Black River Technical College in Pocahontas.
