500 plus attend Block Party
A huge crowd was on hand for the second annual Hoxie Back to School Block Party held Saturday at Hoxie City Park. According to tickets handed out for door prizes, as well as a tally from the mayor, more than 500 were in attendance.
Many activities were available to keep the young people occupied including face painting, a dunking booth, a golf game, inflatable slides and much more. Cold bottled water, hot dogs, popcorn, snow cones and cookies were provided free of charge. School supplies were given away at the close of the event. Several area churches also provided Christian entertainment, which included special singing, drama and signing, during the block party.
"The block party is a great event for the city of Hoxie," said Hoxie Mayor Donnie Roberts. "It's an event to bring the community together as school starts to get school supplies out to the kids. Our kids are the greatest blessing to Hoxie, and it's a joy to get to do things for them."
The event was sponsored by the Arbor Grove Free Will Baptist Church, Freedom Church of Northeast Arkansas (located in Walnut Ridge), New Life Cathedral Church, Hoxie First Baptist Church and Hoxie United Methodist Church.
