The filing period for the November municipal elections closed Tuesday at noon. Those who have filed include:

First-day enrollment
up in county

First-day school enrollment saw an increase in Lawrence County this year with a countywide total of 3,193 students. The total is up 91 students from last year's first-day figure of 3,102.

500 plus attend Block Party

A huge crowd was on hand for the second annual Hoxie Back to School Block Party held Saturday at Hoxie City Park. According to tickets handed out for door prizes, as well as a tally from the mayor, more than 500 were in attendance.

Roberts to seek re-election

Donnie Roberts has announced his bid for re-election to a second term as mayor of the city of Hoxie and has made the following formal announcement.
