Hillcrest student dies in accident



A two-vehicle accident on Saturday at Melrose resulted in the death of Hillcrest High School student Jeffery "J.J." Poff, 17, according to Stone County Police.

The accident occurred at 5:25 a.m. when Poff's 1997 Chevy pickup, driven westbound on Highway 14, crossed the centerline and struck an eastbound 1988 Jeep head-on.

The Jeep was driven by James Cochran, 41, of Mountain View. Cochran was also killed in the accident.
