TEMPERATURES HIGH ~ Hoxie High School football player Sean McCoy takes a break during football practice on Monday morning. Monday's temperatures reached upper 90s, and Tuesday the high temperature was over 100. The heat index both days was well over 100. McCoy is a junior offensive and defensive lineman for the Mustangs.

Haskins resigns as WRFD chief

Walnut Ridge Fire Chief Alan Haskins has resigned as fire chief and has accepted a job as fire science director/instructor at Black River Technical College. Friday will be his last day as chief at the WRFD.

Hillcrest student dies in accident

A two-vehicle accident on Saturday at Melrose resulted in the death of Hillcrest High School student Jeffery "J.J." Poff, 17, according to Stone County Police.
