Once again, we congratulate Raul Blasini of Pocahontas on his most recent honor. On Friday evening, he was one of the honorees at the 33rd annual Community Service Awards sponsored by KARK-TV in Little Rock and the Duncan Law Firm, in conjunction with the Office of the Governor.

The event was held on the campus of the University of Central Arkansas in Conway. Blasini initiated the first cancer screening in Pocahontas nine years ago and has held men's health screenings in Walnut Ridge, Corning, Newport, Osceola and Blytheville. He has assisted others in establishing similar screenings in Paragould, Jonesboro, Monticello and Batesville. He is prostate cancer survivor, defeating the disease in 1997.

J.D. Johnson of Black Rock is a well-known individual in Lawrence County. However, until I heard him speak at Kiwanis recently, I had no idea what an exciting and diverse background he has.
