WRCC clubhouse now open

The Walnut Ridge Country Club has reopened. Club officials said the clubhouse was reopened late last week and that the swimming pool was expected to be open by the middle of this week. The golf course remains closed.

The clubhouse and golf course were closed on June 20 in order to comply with a court ruling.

The close proximity of the airport runway and golf course fairways had been a legal issue for the Walnut Ridge Airport, the City of Walnut Ridge and the Walnut Ridge Country Club for over two years.

After closing, several club members removed some 80 trees and stumps, as well as tee boxes, from the course in an attempt to bring the airport back into compliance with Federal Aviation Administration requirements.

Hal Lady, chairman of the Airport Commission, said that the FAA approved a new lease last week and that the lease was signed on Thursday. The lease will be renewable on a month-to-month basis at a cost of $500, he added.

The commission previously stated that they hope a longer-term lease will be available in the future that will be similar to those held by other airport tenants.

WRCC meeting set for July 29

A meeting for all country club members and potential members has been set for Thursday, July 29, at 7 p.m. at the clubhouse. The future of the club will be discussed at the meeting.
