Head of state Chamber visits WR

Randy Zook, president and CEO of the Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce, was in Walnut Ridge Thursday to meet with members of the Lawrence County Chamber regarding the recently passed healthcare bill.

While many Lawrence County businesses (those with under 50 employees) will not be required to provide insurance, tax credits are available to those that do.

Zook said businesses with 50 or more employees will have to keep a closer watch on the legislation and the rules and regulations as they are written and distributed.

Crum vying for Miss Arkansas title

Hollyann Crum of Walnut Ridge, the reigning Miss White River, is competing for the title of Miss Arkansas in Hot Springs this week. She placed third runner-up in last year's competition where she won the overall Lifestyle and Fitness Award and has garnered $16,000 in scholarships from the Miss Arkansas Pageant System.

Finances good at LHS

The Lawrence Health Services Board of Governors met on June 28.

Justices approve ordinance to
restrict serving minors alcohol

Captain Jody Dotson of the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department presented an ordinance to the Quorum Court that would prohibit adults providing or serving alcohol to minors, even if they are related to them.
