The Arkansas State Highway Commission has opened bids for improvements to roadways in Lawrence County, according to Commissioner John Ed Regenold of Armorel and County Judge Alex Latham.
The purpose of the first project is to resurface selected sections of approximately two miles of Highway 63, near Imboden. Delta Aphalt of Arkansas, Inc. of Paragould was awarded the contract at $319,884.06.
"This project will begin at the intersection with Highway 62 at Imboden and continue southward," Regenold said.
A second project will resurface .8 miles of County Road 137, north of Clover Bend. Atlas Asphalt, Inc. of Jonesboro was awarded the contract at $126,256.15.
"Keeping our county roads in good condition is always a top priority," stated Judge Latham.
Regenold noted that the county road project is funded through the State Aid Road Program, established by the legislature and administered by the State Aid Division of the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department.
The program provides approximately $20 million annually from the state motor fuels tax to assist counties with projects of their choosing on the county road system.
Regenold said work could begin on the projects in two to four weeks, weather permitting. Completion is expected on both projects this summer.
