S-H trap shooting teams compete
Members of the Sloan-Hendrix junior and senior high trap shooting teams participated in the Arkansas Youth Shooting Sports Program (AYSSP) Regional Trap Shooting Competition in Lonoke. "The students did very well at the competition in Lonoke," said coach Greg Foreman. "This was the first year for all but two of the students to participate in the regional competition. I was very proud of how well they competed. I was also very impressed with the amount of parental support that we had at the competition." The competition consists of five members per team. Each member on a team shoots at five skeet from a designated spot, then rotates to the next designated spot to shoot again. Junior high team members shoot at 25 skeet each, while senior high team members shoot at fifty each. "I want to thank all of the parents for allowing their children to participate in the youth shooting sport. Each year we gain more and more understanding of what we need to do to improve our teams. I want to thank the sponsors that financially supported our teams. We were able to practice one or two times a week for several weeks before the regional competition. Also, a big thank you goes to Pardo Roberts for all the assistance he has provided in helping manage the teams," said Foreman. Foreman will offer Hunter's Education again next fall. Sign-up for next years trap shooting teams will be in November or December, however, AYSSP will not provide the skeet until February, so students will not begin practicing until the spring. Students interested in trap shooting next year will need to be registered by the end of January and they must have completed the Hunter's Education course.
