Local races result in runoffs

The highly contested races for Lawrence County judge and sheriff were not decided on Tuesday night as none of the candidates pulled in 50 percent of the vote.

A total of 4,095 Lawrence County residents voted, representing approximately 40 percent of the registered voters.

Unofficial results were released by the Lawrence County Clerk's Office with runoffs slated between Jody Dotson and Glen Smith for sheriff and Dale Freeman and JR Rogers for judge.

Farmers Market grand opening is Saturday

The Walnut Ridge Farmers Market is set to open for the season on Saturday.

Hoxie to accept bids on paving

Hoxie Mayor Donnie Roberts reported at the City Council meeting on May 11 that bids are being accepted for asphalt work in the town.

WR receives grants, loans

The City of Walnut Ridge has received several grants and loans that will assist with the expansion of sewer services and extensive drainage work.

Storm results in power
outages, some damage

The storm system that moved through Lawrence County on Sunday evening caused power outages in several areas of the county.
