Voters to decide races on Tuesday

Tuesday is Election Day, and several races are on the Democratic and Republican ballots. In addition, all voters will cast their votes in the non-partisan judicial races.

Locally, the Democratic ballot carries the races for county sheriff and county judge, as there are no Republican candidates. Three Democrats are also seeking the nomination for state representative, with the winner set to face Republican Chad Moseley in November. (See related articles on these races.)

County to
elect judge

Three Lawrence County Democrats are vying for the office of county judge in the preferential election on Tuesday, following current County Judge Alex Latham's decision not to seek re-election after serving 22 years in office.

Three vying for sheriff

Three candidates are vying for the office of sheriff in Tuesday's Democratic Primary. There are no Republican candidates for the position.

Three seeking Democratic
nomination for state rep.

Candidates contending for state representative for District 73 in the Democratic Primary Election on Tuesday are Ronald Cavenaugh of Walnut Ridge, Blaine Davis of Hoxie and James Ratliff of Imboden.

Court rules on
golf club appeal

The Arkansas Court of Appeals issued an opinion last Wednesday, May 5, upholding Circuit Judge Harold Erwin's granting of summary judgment for the City of Walnut Ridge and the Walnut Ridge Airport Commission in their lawsuit with the Walnut Ridge Golf Club.

JPs seek to have funds transferred

Sherriff Dan Ellison addressed the Lawrence County Quorum Court on Monday regarding a sum of money that has accumulated over the last 20 years in an account known as partial pay.
