Bobcats are district champions
Staff Writer The Walnut Ridge Bobcats claimed the championship of the 2A-2 District Baseball Tournament with a pair of wins Saturday at Salem. In the title game, Curtis Jackson started on the mound for the Bobcats and allowed Midland only three hits while striking out seven. At the plate, Chris Dickson and Jackson each batted 3-for-4. Logan Gaither went 2-for-4, including a two-run homer, and finished with three RBIs. Luke Holloway also recorded two hits. Walnut Ridge improved to 25-6 on the season. The Bobcats advance to the 2A North Regional Tournament, which starts Friday at Marked Tree.
Earlier on Saturday, Walnut Ridge shut out Cotter 11-0 in a semifinal game. Bennett Dudley tossed a two-hitter and registered six strikeouts in the five-inning contest. Offensively for the Cats, Gaither batted 2-for-3 and had four RBIs. Eric Wilcoxson also went 2-for-3 and scored three runs.
Walnut Ridge defeated Tuckerman 7-3 in a regular season contest on April 26 at Tuckerman. Jackson was the starting pitcher and allowed three runs on eight hits while striking out 12 Bulldogs. Dudley batted 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Gaither had two hits and scored three runs. Zach Carson had a three-RBI double to key a four-run third inning for the Cats.
