Lady Cats claim wins
Staff Writer Staci Spargo's game-winning double in the bottom of the seventh gave the Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats an 11-10 win over Cotter in softball action Friday at Stewart Park. Walnut Ridge scored early and often to a 9-1 lead after three innings. The Lady Warriors came back to score a pair of runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth to close to within 9-4. Walnut Ridge pushed their lead to 10-4 with a run in the bottom of the fifth. Cotter added a run in the sixth, and tied the game at 10-10 with five runs in the top of the seventh, setting the stage for Spargo's game-winner. Spargo finished with four hits and scored one run. Josie Wagoner had three hits and scored twice. Alivia Hackworth had two hits and scored three runs, and Ashlyn Cothern had two hits and scored a pair of runs. Beth Massey had one hit and scored two runs, and Amanda Emison had a hit. Hackworth was the winning pitcher.
A four-run fifth inning broke open a close game and lifted the Lady Bobcats to an 11-6 victory over the Pocahontas Lady Redskins Thursday at Walnut Ridge. The teams traded the lead several times early in the game and were tied 5-5 after three innings. Walnut Ridge moved in front 7-5 with a pair of runs in the fourth, before the Lady Redskins cut the deficit to 7-6 with a run in the top of the fifth. Hackworth batted 4-for-4 and scored two runs. Brittney Dobbs had three hits and scored once. Daniel Vaughn had two hits and scored a run, and Cothern had one hit and scored twice. Spargo had a hit and scored two runs. Ashton Lawson and Wagoner each had a hit and scored a run. Spargo started in the pitching circle and allowed five runs on four hits in three innings of work. Hackworth came on to pitch the final four innings, allowing one earned run on one hit to earn the win.
