Society looking forward

Clark spoke to members about the historical society's activities, as well as progress on the Northeast Arkansas Regional Archives facility.

The historical society has been in existence since the 1960s and has been involved in renovation projects, as well as preservation of historical documents.
Clark said when the county seats were consolidated in the 1960s, many records were abandoned at Powhatan. The society rescued the documents, and they were stored in the Powhatan Courthouse, which is now part of a state park.
WR Council adopts emergency manualWalnut Ridge city councilmen adopted an emergency manual, condemned a house on Fourth Street and discussed ways to improve the appearance of the town and entryways from the bypasses at their meeting on April 13.
Hoxie VFD to purchase truckHoxie aldermen voted at their April 13 meeting to loan money to the Hoxie Fire Department to purchase a 2006 Ford 450 one-ton truck to be used as a quick attack brush truck.
Former WR mayor rememberedO'Neal Kellim, who died April 14, had many roles during his life. He was husband, father, grandfather, coach, teacher, public servant and businessman. According to those who knew him, he approached life with a can-do attitude.
Champions of Rural Arkansas recognizedTwo area residents were honored as Champions of Rural Arkansas at an awards ceremony in North Little Rock on Friday.
