The Walnut Ridge Bobcats won the Lawrence County Baseball Tournament championship. Bobcats are county
The Walnut Ridge Bobcats won the 2010 Lawrence County Baseball Tournament with a 15-5 win over the Hoxie Mustangs Saturday at Stewart Park in Walnut Ridge.
Hoxie got on the scoreboard first when Zach Crisler led off the game with a single, stole second, and scored on a dropped fly ball to give the Mustangs a 1-0 advantage.
Walnut Ridge took the lead, by scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning on consecutive two-out hits by Bennett Dudley, Luke Holloway and Chris Dickson. The Bobcats extended their lead to 6-1 with four runs in the second inning on hits from Eric Wilcoxson, Heath Kennedy, Logan Gaither and Holloway. The Cats were aided by two Mustang errors in the inning.
Hoxie climbed back into contention with three runs in the top of the third inning, cutting Walnut Ridge's lead to 6-4. Hayden Defries and
Hunter Flippo each singled and scored on a two-run double by Zach Crisler. Crisler came home on a sacrifice by Tyler Clement.
In the bottom of the third, Teague Phillips and Zach Carson singled and Heath Kennedy drew a walk to load the bases for Walnut Ridge. A dropped fly ball and two more walks put the Bobcats ahead 8-4.
Blake Snow led off the fourth inning with a double, which led to a run, as Hoxie closed to within 8-5.
In the bottom of the fourth, Walnut Ridge took advantage of three walks and an error to score five runs. A double by Curtis Jackson proved to be the big hit in the inning.
The Bobcats closed out the scoring with two runs in the sixth inning. Gaither walked and scored on Dudley's triple. Dudley then scored on Holloway's third hit of the game.
Jackson pitched a six-inning complete game for the Bobcats, allowing five runs on six hits.
Jackson also led Walnut Ridge at the plate, batting 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Holloway went 3-for-5 and drove in two runs, while Dudley and Dickson had two hits apiece.
WR - S-H
Walnut Ridge advanced to the championship game with a 10-0 shutout of Sloan-Hendrix in the semifinals.
Dudley allowed the Greyhounds just one hit and recorded 11 strikeouts, while pitching a five-inning complete game.
At the plate, Dudley connected on a three-run homer, and Eric Wilcoxson went 3-for-4 and scored two runs.
Hoxie - Hillcrest
Hoxie earned a spot in the finals with a 12-9 semifinal victory over Hillcrest.
For Hoxie, Clement had three RBIs on a bases-loaded double. Snow went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and Hayden Defries also had three hits. Cade Crisler had a hit and an RBI. Garrett Hart had two hits and drove in a pair of runs. Jacob Defries and Flippo each had a hit.
Cade Crisler earned the pitching win.
Trevor Morgan had two hits for Hillcrest.

The Sloan-Hendrix Greyhounds opened the tournament with a win over the Black Rock Zebras. The win advanced the Greyhounds into Saturday's semifinals.
