The Wonderview Daredevils defeated Hillcrest 48-40 in the semifinals of the Class 1A State Basketball Tournament Saturday afternoon at Lynn.
Hillcrest led 11-9 at the end of the first quarter, but a 16-6 second-quarter advantage gave the Daredevils a 25-17 lead at halftime.
Wonderview extended its lead to 34-24 late in the third quarter, but a three-point play from Logan Spray brought Hillcrest to within 34-27 at the end of the period.
The Eagles continued to cut into Wonderview's lead in the fourth quarter. Spray converted a three-point play and Derek Wooten hit a three-pointer to bring Hillcrest to within 37-35 with 5:46 to play. Two points would be as close as Hillcrest would get, thanks to Wonderview's clutch free-throw shooting in the closing minutes.
Derek Wooten scored 14 points, and Trevor Morgan finished with 11 points and 12 rebounds for Hillcrest.
The Screamin' Eagles conclude the season with a record of 25 wins and 12 losses.
The Screamin' Eagles defeated conference rival Mammoth Spring 42-35 in double-overtime in the second round of the state tournament on Thursday.
The teams were tied 30-30 at the end of regulation play and 32-32 after the first overtime period.
Wooten led Hillcrest with 13 points.
The Hillcrest Screamin' Eagles handed the Bradley Bears their first loss of the season 61-47 in the first round of the state tournament on March 2.
Bradley led 27-25 at halftime, but Hillcrest used a strong third quarter to take a 42-40 lead into the final period. The Eagles outscored the Bears 19-7 in the fourth quarter to pull away.
Wooten led Hillcrest with 24 points. Morgan scored 18 points, and Spray added 11.
