NO REST FOR THE WEARY ~ After a late 2009 harvest due to a wet fall and winter, Lawrence County farmers are hitting the fields early thanks to a stretch of dry weather. Tractors like this one in one of Craig Williams' fields at the corner of Lawrence County Roads 429 and 432 near Walnut Ridge have been seen working up ground over the past week. Extension Agent Herb Ginn said farmers normally have a little more time between crops, but they have to take advantage of good weather when they have it.

The filing period for the May 18 Primary Election ended Monday with several races developing for local, state and national offices.

At its meeting on Monday night, the Lawrence County Quorum Court addressed money issues affecting the county.

McDaniel visits LawCo.,
impressed with 911 center

Attorney General Dustin McDaniel visited Friday afternoon at the Lawrence County Courthouse, where he visited with employees and toured the county jail and Lawrence County Communications Center.

Rogers files for county judge

State Rep. J.R. Rogers of Walnut Ridge has announced that he will seek the office of Lawrence County judge. "I think the positions that I've held and my experience give me the ability to serve as a county judge," Rogers said.
