The Sloan-Hendrix and Walnut Ridge senior high basketball teams competed in the 2A-2 District Basketball Tournament last week at Imboden.

Saturday
WR - Melbourne boys

The Walnut Ridge boys advanced to the finals before falling to Melbourne 57-37 in the title game Saturday.

Melbourne led 18-15 after one quarter, then stretched the lead to 34-24 at halftime and carried a 46-30 advantage into the final period.

Bennett Dudley led the Bobcats with 15 points, and Chris Dickson had 13.

Thursday
WR - Midland boys

Dudley hit a shot at the buzzer to give Walnut Ridge a 62-60 win over Midland in the semifinals on Thursday.

Dudley finished with 24 points. Curtis Jackson and Derek Medlock each scored 13 points for the Bobcats.

Wednesday, Feb. 17
WR - Midland girls

The Midland Lady Mustangs jumped out to an early lead and held off Walnut Ridge's comeback attempt for a 66-62 victory in the girls bracket.

The Lady Bobcats had to play from behind most of the game after Midland opened a 21-6 first-quarter lead. Walnut Ridge closed the gap to 35-30 at halftime and trailed only 48-45 entering the fourth period, but couldn't overcome the Lady Mustangs.

Alivia Hackworth led the Lady Cats with 26 points, and Audrey McElrath added 10.

S-H - Midland boys

Midland's Derek Tharp scored 29 points in leading the Mustangs past Sloan-Hendrix 64-54.

Midland led 31-22 at halftime and 44-34 after three quarters.

Sam Clem led the Greyhounds with 16 points.

Tuesday, Feb. 16
S-H - Salem boys

The Sloan-Hendrix boys staged a fourth-quarter rally against Salem to send the game into overtime and advanced with a 58-53 win over their visitors.

Salem led 43-34 at the end of the third quarter, before Sloan-Hendrix fought back to tie the game at 52-52 at the end of regulation play. The Sloan-Hendrix defense held Salem to one point in the extra period.

Chase DeJournett led Sloan-Hendrix with 15 points. Clem finished with 12 points, and Zack Ogden added 10.

WR - S-H girls

The Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats outscored Sloan-Hendrix 21-10 in the fourth quarter to down the Lady Hounds 48-42.

Ashley Baker led Walnut Ridge with 18 points, while Daniel Vaughn added 12.

Hannah Rowsey scored 14 points, and Kayla Griffin added 13 for Sloan-Hendrix.

Regional tournament

The Walnut Ridge senior boys will advance to the Class 2A North Region Tournament, hosted by Midland High School at Pleasant Plains.

The Bobcats will play Turrell on Thursday at 8:30 p.m.
