After two delays due to inclement weather, the Lawrence County Spelling Bee was held on Feb. 11 at Hillcrest School.
Ben Dean of Hoxie was crowned the champion speller, as well as winning first place among sixth-grade competitors.
Other overall winners were Caitlyn Whitmire of Hillcrest, first runner-up and first place for seventh grade; and Hailley Moore of Hoxie, second runner-up and first place for eighth grade.
Other grade winners were as follows:
- Eighth grade - Shelbie Cossey, Imboden Area Charter School, second place; and Eric Hill, Sloan-Hendrix, third place.
- Seventh grade - Becca Sloan, Hoxie, second place; and Courtney Light, Hoxie, third place.
- Sixth grade - Wesley Allison, Hoxie, second place; and Carter Vance, Black Rock, third place.
