MORE SNOW ~ Taylor Nichols, son of Matt and Steph Nichols of Walnut Ridge, spends some time in the snow and can't believe his eyes. Most residents were equally amazed as the second round of snowfall in two weeks closed schools and made roads treacherous once again.

Sheriff brings crowded jail to forefront

Overcrowding in the Lawrence County Jail is a problem that Sheriff Dan Ellison is bringing to the forefront. As sheriff, he is required by state law to address the issue and make the issue known to the county's governing body, the quorum court.

The Democratic and Republican parties of Lawrence County have announced filing fees for those wishing to be candidates in the May 18 Preferential Primary Election.

Stephanie Harris of Lynn has announced her candidacy for re-election as Lawrence County Tax Collector.

Green wins national honor

The Independent Community Bankers of America recognized Valarie Green of First National Bank of Lawrence County in Walnut Ridge as one of the nation's 2010 "ICBA Rising Stars."

Accident results in
death of WR woman

A two-vehicle accident on Sunday at Bono resulted in the death of a Walnut Ridge woman, according to TFC Darren Austin of the Arkansas State Police.
