Mustangs split with RivercrestNathan Hibbard
The Hoxie boys basketball teams split a pair of games with the Rivercrest Colts Thursday at Wilson.
Rivercrest won the senior boys game 71-56.
The Colts led 22-13 at the end of the first quarter, 43-30 at halftime and 55-46 after three quarters.
Cade Crisler led the Mustangs with 20 points, and Zach Crisler added 16. Coy Yasler had 14 points and 10 rebounds. Devin Roberts had six rebounds, and Tyler Hall grabbed five boards.
The Hoxie junior high boys defeated Rivercrest 42-28.
Jacob Defries scored 17 points and pulled down eight rebounds for the junior Mustangs. Hunter Flippo had 10 points and four assists. Slade Sullens finished with seven points, four assists and four steals, and Seth Hart added six points.
Hoxie hosted Corning for three contests on Jan. 26.
In senior high action, Yasler had 26 points and 15 rebounds, as the Mustangs defeated Corning 80-67.
Also for Hoxie, Cade Crisler had 24 points, including four three-pointers. Zach Crisler had 20 points, 10 assists and five steals. Brody VanWinkle scored five points. Tyler Hall and Roberts each grabbed five rebounds.
The Hoxie junior high boys earned a 43-36 win over the junior Bobcats.
Hart led Hoxie with 12 points. Jacob Defries had 11 points and nine rebounds, and Hayden Defries had 10 points. Sullens had eight rebounds and five assists.
The Hoxie seventh grade boys defeated Corning 26-21.
Tristen Sisco hit four three-pointers to finish with 12 points. Tristan Privett had nine points, and Layne Ditto added five points.
The Manila Lions used a strong second half to pull away from Hoxie for an 80-49 win in senior boys action on Jan. 25 at Hoxie.
Manila jumped out to a 25-10 lead after one quarter, but the Mustangs closed to within 37-31 at halftime. The Lions went on to outscore Hoxie 23-13 in the third period and 20-5 in the final quarter to claim the win.
For Hoxie, Zach Crisler scored 15 points, Cade Crisler had 11 and Yasler added nine. VanWinkle had six rebounds, while Roberts and Hall each grabbed five boards.
Jacob Defries had 22 points and 11 rebounds to lead Hoxie past Corning 57-43 in a junior boys game.
Sullens added 11 points for the junior Mustangs, and Hayden Defries added 10. Flippo scored eight points, and Keeling had four.
