Beginning in March, a 10-question Census questionnaire will be mailed to residents across the country, including Lawrence County.
to answer Census
"It's going to take 10 minutes to answer 10 questions and the information will be good for 10 years," said Lou Anderson, director of U.S. Census Operations in Arkansas.
All residents are encouraged to participate in the questionnaire.
"It's absolutely critical. We have to count everybody one and in the right place. There's an untold number of people who don't get counted, and when we apply for federal money and it's based on population, if we don't have accurate counts, we don't get as much as we should get," said Anderson.
Federal money, which is based on population, is applied to community services such as hospitals, emergency services and senior centers. An estimated $1,400 of federal funding is applied per person per year.
All gathered information will be kept confidential.
