Shopping and eating in GermanyDuring 2009 I wrote several columns about various aspects of life in Europe including the German school system, a pilgrimage on the Way of Saint James and my daughters' experience in an American high school in Alabama. This time I would like to write something about shopping and eating in Germany.The differences are becoming fewer and fewer as time passes but are still remarkable. When I first came to Germany, shops opened weekdays at 8 or 9 a.m. and closed at 6 p.m. and were usually closed from noon until 2 p.m. for lunch.
