Hoxie teams split with RivercrestThe Hoxie Mustangs suffered a heart-breaking loss on Friday as they fell to Rivercrest 68-54 after point guard Zach Crisler was injured in the final moments of the first half.
Hoxie was holding a 27-23 lead at the break, and held their lead for much of the third quarter before Rivercrest began to pull away. A 16-2 run by the Colts put them up 52-43 at the end of the third quarter.
Hoxie pulled to within 60-53 on two free throws by Kenny Mashburn with 2:47 to play in the game, but Rivercrest held on for the win.
Coy Yasler led the Mustangs with 14 points. Cade Crisler added 12 points, and Zach Crisler recorded 11 before his injury.
In junior boys action, Rivercrest slipped by Hoxie 37-35.
The Lady Mustangs faced Rivercrest on Thursday night.
The senior girls defeated Rivercrest 42-40 in a game that was close throughout. Hoxie was down 7-4 at the end of the first quarter but went up 19-18 at the half. The teams were neck and neck in the third each scoring 12 points, but Hoxie outscored the Lady Colts 11-10 in the final quarter to hold on for the win.
Tanya Sisco led the Lady Mustangs with 15 points and seven rebounds. Neely Ragsdell added nine points and nine rebounds.
Also for Hoxie, Karina Mashburn scored seven, Kelsey Lewis had six, Chasity Becker recorded four and Alyssa McConnell added a point.
The Hoxie junior girls fell behind in the first quarter 12-4 and could never quite recover as Rivercrest recorded a 44-36 victory. The Lady Colts held leads of 25-14 at the half and 36-26 entering the final quarter.
Maddison Woodard led Hoxie with 18 points. Kayla Ward scored seven points, and Krista Coffell added five. Other Lady Mustangs recording points were Sara Manis with three, Amanda Moskop with two and Brandy Alls with one.
The Lady Mustangs beat Brookland 52-45 in senior girls action on Jan. 18. Hoxie led the Bearcats 14-12 at the conclusion of the first quarter and went into the locker room up 32-22. Brookland outscored Hoxie 10-9 in the third, but the Lady Mustangs maintained a 41-32 lead going into the final quarter of play.
Cayley Rosson led Hoxie with 11 points and six rebounds, and Sisco and Mashburn each scored nine. Autumn Nelson added eight points, and Becker and Lewis scored five apiece. Rounding out the Hoxie scoring was McConnell with three and Ragsdell with two.
Hoxie's junior girls suffered a tough loss falling 35-34 to Brookland. Coffell led the Lady Mustangs with 11 points and five rebounds, and Manis contributed seven points.
Ward and Moskop each scored four points, and Courtney Rice, Woodard, Alls and Courtney Sears recorded two apiece.
In seventh-grade action, Brookland recorded a 30-8 win over the Lady Mustangs.
