Hoxie claims homecoming wins

Zach Crisler scored 31 points and dished out 10 assists to lead the Hoxie Mustangs to a 70-66 homecoming victory over the Tuckerman Bulldogs Friday night at Hicks Gymnasium.

Hoxie led 15-11 at the end of the first quarter and 38-28 at halftime, before Tuckerman closed to within 50-48 after three quarters.

Also for the Mustangs, Coy Yasler had 18 points and 16 rebounds.

Hoxie improved to 8-1 in 3A-3 conference play and 11-3 overall.

Junior high

The Hoxie junior high boys defeated Tuckerman 55-45.

Hoxie led 12-11 after one quarter, 28-18 at halftime and 35-21 after three quarters.

Jacob Defries led the junior Mustangs with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Seth Hart had 17 points, including five three-pointers. Hayden Defries scored three points and pulled down 12 rebounds. Hunter Flippo finished with seven points and 10 rebounds. Slade Sullens had eight points and five assists, and Dillon Cagle had eight points.

The junior Mustangs improved to 8-1 in conference play and 9-2 overall.


Hoxie faced top-seeded Bay in the semifinals of the Kell Classic on Jan. 13 at Swifton, falling to the Yellowjackets 65-46.

Bay led 19-12 after the first quarter, 38-23 at halftime and 53-38 at the end of the third period.

Cade Crisler led Hoxie with 13 points. Zach Crisler and Yasler each had 11 points, and Tyler Hall added nine.

Cade Crisler and Zach Crisler were named to the All-Tournament team.


Hoxie traveled to Brookland on Jan. 12 and defeated the Bearcats 77-53 in senior boys action.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 29-13 first-quarter advantage and led 46-28 at halftime and 64-47 after three quarters.

Yasler finished with 20 points and seven rebounds. Zach Crisler had 16 points and 16 assists. Hall scored 14 points, and Cade Crisler had 13 points and six assists.

Devin Roberts had seven points, and Kenny Mashburn added five.

Junior high

The Hoxie junior high boys defeated Brookland 49-34.

Hoxie led 10-6 after one quarter, 23-13 at halftime and 37-27 at the end of the third period.

Jacob Defries led the junior Mustangs with 20 points and seven rebounds. Hunter Keeling grabbed 10 rebounds. Hayden Defries had five points. Sullens finished with six points and five assists. Hart had six points, and Jake Ellis added five.
