Grandparents' Corner

Shelby, eight, and Alison, five, are the children of Joel and Tammy Whitehead of Walnut Ridge.

Grandparents are Geneva Whitehead and Glendine Watson, both of Walnut Ridge, and the late Claytus Whitehead and Moss C. Watson.

Long, cold
days and
nights

Catherine Richey did a good job of expressing my thoughts in her Eaton column this week. (See page 15A.) She writes about our long string of extremely cold weather, days and nights, and that a lot of people who she has known have passed away in recent days.

Ethel Angeline Hanshaw Russell, age 107, died Jan. 5 at Walnut Ridge Nursing and Rehab. She would have been 108 on Feb. 2. I had previously stated incorrectly that Anna Richey Cameron, who died Aug. 25, 2009, at age 106 was the oldest living resident in the county. Mrs. Russell obviously held this record. If anyone knows of someone older, please let me know.
