Hoxie boys earn wins

The Hoxie Mustangs earned their second win in the Kell Classic Basketball Tournament 61-56 over the Highland Rebels on Saturday at Swifton.

The game was tied 13-13 after one quarter before Highland moved into a 27-23 halftime lead. Hoxie outscored the Rebels 18-9 in the third quarter to take a 41-36 lead into the final period.

Zach Crisler led the Mustangs with 29 points, five assists and four steals. Cade Crisler had 15 points and five rebounds. Devin Roberts finished with seven points and five rebounds. Coy Yasler had six points and nine rebounds. Brody VanWinkle had two points and two rebounds.

Hoxie will face Bay in the semifinals on Wednesday at 5:15 p.m.


The Mustangs traveled to Piggott and defeated the Mohawks 60-50 in 3A-3 conference action on Jan. 5.

Zach Crisler led Hoxie with 22 points, while Cade Crisler added 17. Yasler had 13 points and six rebounds. Kenny Mashburn had six points, and Roberts grabbed seven rebounds.

Junior high

The Hoxie junior high boys defeated Piggott 35-14.

Hoxie led 11-1 after the first quarter and 24-10 at halftime.

Seth Hart led the junior Mustangs with 17 points, including five three-pointers. Jacob Defries had 11 points. Slade Sullens totaled nine points, seven rebounds and eight assists. Hayden Defries had four points and seven rebounds, and Hunter Flippo had six rebounds.
