Local girls teams fare

The Manila Lady Lions used some clutch free throw shooting in the fourth quarter to hold off the Black Rock Lady Zebras 54-43 in the quarterfinals of NEA Invitational Tournament on Saturday at Jonesboro.
Manila held a 15-11 lead after one quarter, 32-22 at halftime and 40-31 at the end of the third period. The Lady Lions outscored Black Rock 14-12 in the final period, with all of their points coming from the charity stripe.
Megan Jones led Black Rock with 15 points, while Teri Aden finished with 12 points and 17 rebounds.
A 17-5 run by Bay proved to be the difference, as the Lady Yellowjackets defeated Hillcrest 54-43 in girls NEA quarterfinal action on Saturday.
Bay led 11-10 after one quarter before moving out to a 28-15 halftime advantage. The Lady Jackets extended their lead to 41-21 before the Lady Eagles made a run in the final period.
Miranda Doyle scored 16 points to lead Hillcrest.
Aden recorded 21 points and 16 rebounds to lead 11th-seeded Black Rock to a 59-52 upset of sixth-seeded East Poinsett County on Dec. 23.
The Lady Zebras led by six at halftime and extended the lead to 34-23 before EPC rallied to go in front 37-35 late in the third quarter.
The lead changed hands several times in the final period until Black Rock's Hailey Slusser made a steal and knocked down a three-pointer to put the Lady Zebras ahead 55-50 with 47 seconds to play. Black Rock converted their free throws in the final seconds to secure the win.
Slusser finished with 13 points, while Ashley Stallings pulled down 13 rebounds.
The Hillcrest Lady Screamin' Eagles upset seventh-seeded Izard County Consolidated 53-40 on Dec. 23.
Hillcrest led 22-14 at halftime and 38-20 after three quarters.
Samantha Blevins led the Lady Eagles with 16 points, while Tamara Evans added 13. Makenzie Nunnally had 12 points, and Natalie Johnson had 10.
Bay ran out to a 19-3 lead over Walnut Ridge and went on to defeat the Lady Bobcats 62-33 on Dec. 23.
Alivia Hackworth scored 19 points to lead Walnut Ridge.

Amy Galbreath led the Lady Zebras with 17 points. Stallings had 14 points and 13 rebounds, and Sarah Penn added 10 points.

Doyle led Hillcrest with 11 points.
Walnut Ridge's Lady Bobcats held Tuckerman to just six first-half points en rout to defeating the Lady Bulldogs 53-33 on Dec. 21.
The Lady Bobcats led 13-4 at the end of the first quarter, 26-6 at halftime and 40-18 after three quarters.
Ashley Baker led the Lady Cats with 22 points. Hackworth finished with 11 points and six rebounds.
The Rivercrest Lady Colts eliminated Sloan-Hendrix 64-37 on Dec. 21.
Hannah Rowsey had 10 points for the Lady Greyhounds.
