Hillcrest boys advance
to tourney quarterfinals

The Hillcrest Screamin' Eagles earned two wins in the NEA Invitational Tournament at Jonesboro before falling to East Poinsett County 79-68 in the quarterfinals of the 1A-2A-3A division on Saturday.

The Eagles led at the end of the first quarter, only to see EPC take a 36-32 advantage into halftime. The Warriors extended their lead to 62-46 heading into the final period.

Dylan Wooten scored 19 points to lead Hillcrest. Derek Wooten had 18 points, and Trevor Morgan added 17.

EPC junior guard Ky Madden, one of the top players in the nation, led the Warriors with 38 points.

BR - Cave City

After receiving a bye, the sixth-seeded Black Rock Zebras faced Cave City on Dec. 23.

The 11th-seeded Cavemen drained nine three-pointers in defeating the Zebras 59-55.

Joe Paul Carey led Black Rock with 15 points. Tadd Fore scored 14 points, and Khris Foster added 10 for the Zebras.

Hillcrest - Armorel

Four Hillcrest players scored in double figures, as the Screamin' Eagles edged Armorel 51-48 on Dec. 23.

Derek Wooten led Hillcrest with a game-high 16 points. Dylan Wooten had 11 points. Logan Spray and Morgan each added 10 points.

S-H - Ridgefield Christian

Ridgefield's Matt Pierce scored 33 points to lead the Warriors past Sloan-Hendrix 62-50 on Dec. 21.

Ridgefield Christian jumped out to a 14-5 lead after one quarter, 28-16 at halftime and 46-28 at the end of the third period. The Greyhounds closed to within 50-41 in the fourth quarter, but couldn't overtake the Warriors.

Sam Clem had 12 points, and Tyler Gillean added 11 for Sloan-Hendrix.

Hillcrest - Salem

Hillcrest raced to a 17-4 first-quarter lead en route to defeating Salem 51-39 on Dec. 21.

Morgan had 17 points, while Derek Wooten and Dylan Wooten each scored 13 points for the Eagles.

WR - McCrory

Walnut Ridge's Chris Dickson scored 22 points, as the Bobcats fell to McCrory 46-44 on Dec. 21.
