William Robert Johnson

Ben and Christa Johnson of Pocahontas have announced the birth of their first child, a son, born on Dec. 14, 2009, at St. Bernards Birthcare Center in Jonesboro.

The baby weighed six pound, eight ounces, and has been named William Robert Johnson.

Grandparents are Bob and Pam Johnson of Walnut Ridge and Jim and Freida Radcliff of Pocahontas.

Bentley Garyn Lawhon

Austin Lawhon and Morgan Inboden have announced the birth of a son, born on Dec. 14, 2009, at St. Bernards Birthcare Center in Jonesboro.

The baby weighed six pounds, 14 ounces, and has been named Bentley Garyn Lawhon.

Grandparents are Clay and Natali Inboden of Bono and Gary and Janet Lawhon of Walnut Ridge.

Great-grandparents are Linda Morris of Bono, Carrol Rorex, Zack and Colleen Lawhon and Donald and Ana Lee Austin, all of Walnut Ridge.

Patsy Bayles

Patsy D. Bayles, 56, of Pocahontas, died Dec. 23, 2009, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

Born Dec. 22, 1953, in Walnut Ridge, she was the daughter of Steve and Ruth Irene Neece Mooney. She formerly worked at Waterloo and was of the Baptist belief.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Bayles; a brother, Homer Lee Mooney; and a sister, Ozella Cork Redding.

Survivors include her husband, Walter Bayles, whom she married Oct. 25, 1985; two sons, Shawn Young, Pocahontas, and Alan Bayles, Walnut Ridge; a daughter, Barbara Bayles, Black Rock; four brothers, Larry Mooney, Troy, Mo., Jim Mooney, Imboden, Carl Mooney, Bolivar, Mo., and Charlie McCutchen, St. Charles, Mo.; a sister, Louise Garvin, Pocahontas; a half-sister, Sue Butler, Walnut Ridge; and five grandchildren, Allen Bayles, Mitchell Bayles, Stacey Adams, Cheryle Adams and Rickey Adams.

Funeral was Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Bryan Funeral Home with Robert Davis officiating. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were Tim Mooney, Manuel Mooney, Steven Mooney, Jeff Mooney, Wendell Taylor and Randal Frye. Honorary pallbearers were Allen Bayles, Rickey Adams and Homer Wayne Mooney.

Linda Brewer

Linda Brewer, 62, of Walnut Ridge, died Dec. 23, 2009, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.

Born Oct. 8, 1947, in Alicia, she was the daughter of Lowell Devoe and Ruby Mae CrumptonNunnally. She was a caseworker for the Department of Human Services in Walnut Ridge and was of the Protestant belief.

Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Ward, Memphis; two brothers, Marty Devoe Nunnally and Roger Nunnally, both of Lynn; a sister, Lola June Jones, Jonesboro; and a granddaughter, Ashley Nicole Daniels.

Graveside service was Monday at 2 p.m. at Old Lebanon Cemetery with Bro. Michael Harmon officiating. Bryan Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Bob Wells, Bill Wells, Mike Nunnally, Kevin Nunnally, Steve Smith and Josh Shirley.

Benny Broyles

Boyce "Benny" Broyles, 64, of Hoxie, died Dec. 26, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and had lived in Hoxie the past eight years.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Carmella Broyles; two daughters, Sarah Broyles, of the home, and Shannon Dobbs, Hoxie; four brothers, Olen Broyles, Jeff Broyles, Sammy Broyles and Aarol Broyles; and three grandchildren.

Funeral is Thursday at 11 a.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Ted Shields officiating. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery near Strawberry.

Pallbearers will be Gray Armstrong, Jeff Passalaqua, Israel Arrequin, James Harris, Chris Ordonez, John Holman, Isidro Ordonez, Lee Dobbs and Benn Dobbs.

Visitation is tonight from 5-8 p.m.

Norma O. Dixon

Norma O. Dixon, 88, of Rockford, Ill., died Dec. 26, 2009, at Amberwood Care Center.

Born Oct. 24, 1921, in Hoxie, she was the daughter of Paul and Lutie Carley Dickerson. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mirdie S. Dixon, on Dec. 22, 1992, whom she married April 14, 1939, in Hoxie; two sons, Harold Dixon and Donald Ray Dixon; and two daughters, Sharon Johnson and Julie Dixon.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald Dixon and Donald Ray Dixon II; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral is today at 11 a.m. at Olson Funeral Home in Rockford, Ill., with Ed Fowler officiating. Burial will be in Willwood Cemetery.

Lucy Ellis

Lucy Ellis, 90, of Pocahontas, died Dec. 26, 2009, at Randolph Home.

Born Nov. 25, 1919, in the Richwoods community, she was the daughter of Joseph and Lucy Mae Stone.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Daniel William Ellis and an infant son; a brother, Ceral Stone; and three sisters, Marie Ivy, Rhema Eskridge and Maxine Cupp.

Survivors include her husband, Percy Ellis; a son, Frank Ellis and wife Judy, Plano, Texas; three sisters, Carolyn Ellis, Walnut Ridge, Ola Mae Orsburn, San Antonio, and Wanda Long, Pocahontas; two grandchildren, Amanda Ellis and Kimberly Ellis; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral is Thursday at 10 a.m. at McNabb Funeral Home in Pocahontas with Bill Goode officiating. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mike Ellis, Danny Ellis, James Edward Ivy, Eggie Tedder, Jason Glisson and Thad Poore.

Visitation is tonight from 5-7 p.m.

Delores Hinshaw

Delores Hinshaw, 71, of Columbia, Miss., formerly of Strawberry, died Dec. 22, 2009, in Hattiesburg, Miss.

She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Hirsh.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Hinshaw; a daughter, Edna Jackson, Columbia, Miss.; four sisters, Ann Farmer, Joyce Midget, Sue Walls and Kay Wilson; a brother, Roy Wright; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Tuesday at Colonial Funeral Home in Columbia, Miss. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Thomas Hufstedler

Thomas Roland "Roe" Hufstedler, 89, of Pocahontas, died Dec. 28, 2009, at his home.

Born Sept. 1, 1920, at Imboden, he was the son of Richard Jefferson and Nola Wells Hufstedler. He was a World War II veteran and was of the Church of Christ faith.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lovell Hufstedler, Glen Hufstedler and Bob Hufstedler.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Tipton Hufstedler; two daughters, Vicky Hancock and husband Donnie, Ravenden, and Sheila Chester and husband John, Pocahontas; a sister, Mary Grissom, Pocahontas; and two grandchildren, Tom Chester and Hebron Chester.

Funeral is Thursday at 10 a.m. at Cox Funeral Home in Pocahontas with Larry Owen officiating. Burial will be in Old Union Cemetery.

Visitation is tonight from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Leon B. Lovelady, 69, of Ravenden, died Dec. 26, 2009, at the Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

The body will be cremated.

Clara Marie Mosier

Clara Marie Mosier, 96, of Walnut Ridge, died Dec. 27, 2009, at Lawrence Hall Nursing Center.

A homemaker, she lived most of her life in Lawrence County and was a member of the Hoxie Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elzie "Pete" Mosier; three brothers, six sisters; a granddaughter; and a great-grandson.

Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Sullins, Bono; three sons, Bobby Mosier, Paragould, Jimmy Mosier, Powhatan, and Terry Mosier, Ida; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral is today at 2 p.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with A.J. Stracener officiating. Burial will be in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Brent Sullins, Scott Mosier, Mark Mosier, Chris Mosier, Kerry Mosier and Gregg Mosier.

Genevieve Ida Sorg, 81, of Pocahontas, mother of Dale Sorg of Walnut Ridge, died Dec. 24, 2009, at Five Rivers Medical Center in Pocahontas. Burial was Monday in St. Paul's Cemetery under the direction of McNabb Funeral Home.

Ruth B. Tipton

Ruth B. Tipton, 70, of Cabot, died Dec. 20, 2009.

Born Sept. 4, 1939, in Lawrence County, she was a salesperson for Dreamline and was a member of Victory Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kent and Mabel Phillips Benn; a brother and four sisters.

Survivors include her husband, Densial Tipton; three daughters, Bridget Flowers and husband Rusty, Greenville, Miss., Beth Fryar and husband Alan, Damascus, and Jenifer Prather and husband, Paul Eddlemon, Memphis; a stepdaughter, Sandra Finley and husband Mark, Cabot; two stepsons, Steve Tipton and wife Glena, Little Rock, and Denny Tipton, Cabot; four sisters, Mary Graddy, Walnut Ridge, Carolyn Patterson, Benton, Joyce Lees, Naples, Fla., and Albertine Turley, Watsonville, Calif.; a grandson, Dakota Fryar; and nine stepgrandchildren.

A memorial service was held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Victory Baptist Church with Bro. Ben Leonard officiating. Moore's Cabot Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Gary Dene West

Gary Dene West, 62, of Strawberry, died Dec. 27, 2009, at White River Medical Center in Batesville.

Born Feb. 15, 1947, at Calamine, he was an inspector for the Arkansas Highway Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dene and Ruth Mullen West.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Diane Clem West, whom he married June 6, 1965, in Strawberry; a son, Michael West and wife Lynette, Concord; a daughter, Denna Wheeler and husband Kenny, Evening Shade; two brothers, Danny West, Okmulgee, Okla., and David West, Sand Springs, Okla.; three sisters, Joann Conatser, Trumann, Patty Huskey, Saffell, and Helen Lackey, Batesville; and four grandchildren, Brandon West, Bryce West, Jessica Wheeler and Cody Wheeler.

Funeral is Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Roller-Crouch McGee Funeral Home in Cave City with Leonard Smith and Roger Randolph officiating. Burial will be in Millgan Campground Cemetery at Strawberry.

Pallbearers will be Paul Hoggard, George Carter, James Anderson, Ronnie Perkey, Billy Mack, Robbie Mize, James Hoggard and Gene Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Goodwin, Brandon Hoggard, Bryce West, Brandon West, Cody Wheeler and Jessica Wheeler.
