Hoxie approves budgetLeslie Ginn
On Tuesday, December 8, the Hoxie City Council passed an ordinance adopting the 2010 budget. The high cost of repairs to the two sanitation trucks during 2009 was reviewed during the budget conversation.
In 2008 there was a total of $3,500 used for repairs compared to the $21,000 worth of repairs during the first nine months of 2009. The point is made that it was difficult to foresee all future expenditures.
The holidays to be observed by the City of Hoxie for 2010 were also set as New Year's Day on Jan. 1, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s and Robert E. Lee's birthday on Jan. 18, George Washington's Birthday and Daisy Gaston Bates Day on Feb. 15, Memorial Day on May 31, Independence Day observed on July 5, Labor Day on Sept. 6, Columbus Day on Oct. 12, Veteran's Day on Nov. 11, Thanksgiving Holiday on Nov. 25-26, and Christmas Holiday observed on Dec. 23-24.
Both Delbert Robins and Sonny Anglin had questions about Hoxie streets. Robins asked about how to get a street abandoned. The steps include getting consent from all neighbors.
Anglin desired to have Elm Street cleared. The clearing of the street comes under the heading of the cleanup ordinance. Since Elm Street is not yet a dedicated city street, the council stands by its former decision that once Anglin sells his property, the city will then address any needs regarding Elm Street.
