Hillcrest boys claim winsNathan Hibbard
Derek Wooten and Dylan Wooten combined for 41 points to lead the Hillcrest Screamin' Eagles past Izard County Consolidated 52-31 in senior boys basketball Friday night at Brockwell.
Hillcrest led by only 24-22 at halftime, but pulled away from the Cougars in the second half.
Derek scored 21 points, while Dylan added 20 for the Eagles. Trevor Morgan had five points. Logan Spray scored four points, and Tyler Parker added two.
Hillcrest improved to 3-2 in the 1A-2 North conference and 11-4 overall.
In the junior boys contest, Hillcrest ran out to a 19-8 halftime lead en route to a 52-29 victory over the junior Cougars.
Corey Richey scored 14 points to lead Hillcrest. Zach Doyle and Hunter Nunnally each had eight points, and Colman Evans added six. Brandon Scott and Clint Durham each scored two points.
Derek Wooten's 29 points led the Screamin' Eagles to a 52-45 overtime win over Rural Special on Dec. 8 at Fox.
Hillcrest led 21-20 at halftime, and the contest was tied 40-40 at the end of regulation.
Also for Hillcrest, Spray scored nine points, and Dylan Wooten had six. Trevor Morgan finished with four points, while Tyler Crews and Billy Brannon scored two points apiece.
The Hillcrest junior high boys advanced to the finals of the Melbourne Junior High Tournament at Melbourne. The junior Eagles fell to Mountain View 51-43 in the championship game on Saturday.
Zach Doyle led the Eagles with 26 points, including four three-pointers. Nunnally had eight points. Evan Doyle and Richey each had four points, and Durham added one point.
The Hillcrest boys defeated the Viola junior Longhorns 28-26 in the tournament semifinals on Thursday.
Zach Doyle and Nunnally each scored eight points. Evans and Richey had six points apiece.
