Commission Chairman Dan Coker gave several updates on projects underway at the airport including plans for a new building for Universal Asset Management and Arkansas Turbine. The engineer's report has been completed and submitted to East Arkansas Planning and Development in Jonesboro. The report provides information that the Federal Economic Development Administration requires for their application.
"The next step is for the EDA to finalize the financing package and present it back to the commission for approval," Coker said.
The Airport Layout Plan has been updated to show the approach light system (MALSR) for the airport. If approved by the FAA, and if funding is available, this will give the airport a low instrument approach to Runway 04.
Commissioners also revised the T-Hanger rentals that includes a $10 per month increase in rent. The commissioners also voted to proceed with plans to condemn an abandoned building at the airport that is in a state of disrepair.
An update on the status of the lawsuit filed by the Walnut Ridge Golf Club against the airport and the city of Walnut Ridge was given. It is now before the Arkansas Court of Appeals, and David Cahoon, attorney for the city and the airport, has asked that it be moved up on the court's agenda because of safety concerns.
