Hoxie girls sweep BrooklandNathan Hibbard
The Hoxie Lady Mustangs outlasted Brookland's Lady Bearcats 56-54 in a back-and-forth senior girls basketball game Nov. 23 at Hicks Gymnasium.
The Lady Mustangs held an 11-10 advantage after one period and maintained a slim 28-25 lead at halftime. Brookland came out strong in the second half, outscoring Hoxie 11-6 in the third quarter to carry a 36-34 lead into the final period. The Lady Mustangs would not be denied, outscoring their visitors 22-18 in the fourth quarter to claim the win.
Tanya Sisco led Hoxie with 17 points. Kelsey Lewis had 12 points, and Karina Mashburn added 10 for the Lady Mustangs. Alyssa McConnell scored six points, and Neely Ragsdell added five. Chasity Becker and Cayley Rosson each scored three points.
The Hoxie junior high girls built a big lead through three quarters, then held off a Brookland rally in the fourth quarter to post a 40-35 win over the junior Lady Bearcats.
Hoxie led 15-10 after one quarter and extended their lead in the second period to take a 27-15 advantage into halftime. After an evenly-played third quarter, Hoxie took a 33-21 into the final period. Brookland outscored the junior Lady Mustangs 14-7 in the fourth quarter to cut the final margin to five.
Maddison Woodard led Hoxie with 14 points. Amanda Moskop had eight points and five rebounds, and Courtney Rice scored seven points. Krista Coffell finished with five points and five rebounds. Sarah Manis, Brandy Alls and Courtney Sears each scored two points.
