The citizens of Walnut Ridge now have three fully manned fire stations to protect and serve them. The city's fire station on East Main has been remodeled and is now open 24-hours a day, seven days a week, according to Walnut Ridge Fire Chief Alan Haskins.
The old Fireman's Hall had to be demolished in February of 2008, with the fire truck bay area left standing to provide the fire department with a substation on the east side of the railroad tracks.
Highway commission provides
The Arkansas State Highway Commission has awarded funding to applicants, including Lawrence County, for the Recreational Trails Program projects in Arkansas.

Groundbreaking held for plant
A groundbreaking ceremony for the Northeast Arkansas Regional Water Authority's water treatment plant was held on Friday afternoon at the site where the new facility will stand on Highway 361 near Black Rock.

The records formally housed in the Powhatan Courthouse, were discussed at the Lawrence County Historical Society meeting held at the Lawrence County Meeting Room on Nov. 17.
