Bobcats fall to Woodlawn

The Walnut Ridge Bobcats saw their 2009 football season come to an end with an 18-13 loss to the Woodlawn Bears Friday night at Rison in the first round of the 2A State Playoffs.

The loss marked the second time in the last three years that Walnut Ridge's season was ended by the Bears. Woodlawn defeated the Bobcats 42-6 in the first round of the 2007 playoffs.

Walnut Ridge threatened to get on the scoreboard early, when quarterback Luke Holloway connected with Teague Phillips on a 54-yard pass play to the Woodlawn three-yard line on the game's first play. The Bears' defense stiffened and forced an incompletion on a fourth-down pass.

Black Rock falls to Bay

The Bay Yellowjackets outlasted the Black Rock Zebras 59-53 in senior boys basketball Thursday night at Bay.

Hoxie girls fall to Earle

The Earle Lady Bulldogs defeated Hoxie 48-41 in the Lady Mustangs basketball season opener Thursday night at Hicks Gymnasium.

BR beats Greyhounds

The Black Rock Lady Zebras used a strong fourth quarter to defeat Sloan-Hendrix 66-51 in senior girls basketball on Nov. 10 at Black Rock.

Screamin' Eagles beat Cave City

Trevor Morgan scored 23 points to help lead the Hillcrest Screamin' Eagles to a 61-55 come-from-behind victory at Cave City on Nov. 10.
