Shelter set to reopenGretchen HuntEditor The Children's Shelter in Walnut Ridge will reopen on Friday following a temporary closure. Administrator Amber Hampton said an initial staff meeting will be held Thursday and the doors will reopen to begin accepting children on Friday at 8 a.m. The shelter's board voted to close recently to complete some minor construction projects, as well as avoid any additional complications after an allegation was made to the Arkansas Crimes Against Children's Hotline. Hampton said a final report has not been received from the Arkansas State Police Crimes Against Children Division in Little Rock, but they have not been restricted from accepting children. Hampton said a clothing closet was completed during the shutdown, as well as some minor projects. She said the clothing closet is fully stocked at this time, but donations of non-perishable food items, cleaning supplies and paper products are always welcome, as well as monetary contributions. "We appreciate the continued support of the community," she said.
