RIDIN' HIGH AT THE IRON MOUNTAIN FESTIVAL ~ Kayla Hoffman, age nine, of Walnut Ridge was one of many children who enjoyed pony rides at the Iron Mountain Festival held Saturday. Terry Clements of the Lawrence County Western Ranglers 4-H Club assisted with the pony rides. Sunshine and mild temperatures were perfect for the festival, which attracted throngs of people all day to downtown Walnut Ridge.

Newcom resigns
from WR Airport

The Walnut Ridge Regional Airport Commission held a special meeting on Tuesday night to discuss the letter of resignation received from longtime airport manager Ken Newcom.

Airport Commission Chairman Dan Coker said that Newcom had first brought up the possibility of resigning in June, citing health problems as the reason.

WR meeting addresses mold issue

The Walnut Ridge City Council held a special meeting on Tuesday night to hear a report from Dan Melton, a house inspector from Home Integrities. He had completed an inspection of a house located at 910 Northeast Second Street and owned by Bret and Michelle Sheets of Walnut Ridge.

Shelter set to reopen

The Children's Shelter in Walnut Ridge will reopen on Friday following a temporary closure.

Training required for local officer

Former Sedgwick Police Chief Ezra Pierce appeared before a committee of the Office of Law Enforcement Standards in Camden in July of 2009, which resulted in Pierce being temporarily replaced by the city of Sedgwick.

NEA Regional Water
Authority opens bids

Members of the Northeast Arkansas Water Authority and representatives from Crist Engineers, Inc. met Thursday at the Lawrence County Meeting Room in Walnut Ridge to open bids on a water treatment plant and 83,000 feet of transmission lines that will connect the treatment center and existing distribution centers for its members.
