Volleyball season ends in LawCo.Nathan Hibbard
Hoxie and Walnut Ridge squared off in the first round of the 3A-Northeast District Volleyball tournament Saturday at Paragould.
Hoxie edged the Lady Bobcats 26-24 in the first game before Walnut Ridge evened the match by winning the second game 25-19. The Lady Mustangs won the next two games, 27-25 and 25-16, to capture the match and advance to the second round.
For Hoxie, Chasity Becker was 15-of-15 serving, with two aces, three digs, five kills, 23 assists and two blocks. Alyssa Coggins had eight digs and eight kills, and Shayla Coats had nine digs.
Kelsey Lewis had five kills and two digs. Brianna Liscomb was 13-of-13 serving, with three aces, 11 kills and two blocks. Kassie Teel had six kills and two digs. Amanda Whaley had two digs, four kills and 10 assists.
The Lady Mustangs were dealt a season-ending loss by host Crowley's Ridge Academy in the second round. The Lady Falcons defeated Hoxie in a hard-fought four-game match 12-25, 31-29, 25-27, 12-25.
Becker had 12 kills, 11 assists and two blocks. Coggins had 14 digs, five kills and two blocks, and Coats had 11 digs. Lewis finished with eight digs, three kills and three blocks, and Erika Manis had nine digs. Liscomb had two digs, seven kills and a block. Whaley was 10-of-10 serving, with two aces, 15 assists, one kill and one dig.
The Lady Mustangs ended the season with an overall record of 14 wins and 12 losses.
