Mustangs earn win over PiggottNathan HibbardStaff Writer Sebastian Irvin and Dillon Williamson each rushed for over 100 yards to lead the Hoxie Mustangs to a 22-7 victory over the Piggott Mohawks in senior high football action Friday night at Piggott. Hoxie took a 6-0 lead on a four-yard run by Irvin with 37 seconds to play in the first quarter. Jeremy Anglin booted a 27-yard field goal with six seconds to play in the second quarter to send the Mustangs into halftime with a 9-0 advantage. Piggott made a game of it in the second half, as Alec Samples ran two yards for a Mohawk touchdown. The extra point trimmed the Hoxie lead to 9-7 with 3:26 remaining in the third period. Hoxie responded with a scoring drive, capped by Irvin's 10-yard run early in the fourth quarter. Anglin's extra point pushed the Mustangs' lead to 16-7 with 11:45 to play in the game. Hoxie iced the game on a touchdown run by Dillon Williamson with 1:42 to play. With the win, Hoxie improved to 3-1 in 3A-3 conference play and 4-3 overall. "I was very proud of the guys' effort," said Mustang head coach Tom Sears. "This win keeps us in contention for a playoff spot and the conference championship." Irvin finished with 146 yards on 24 carries, and Williamson added 117 yards on 13 attempts. Defensively, Blake Snow had a team-high 17 tackles, and Devin Roberts had 10 tackles and two sacks. Jonathan Quesada recorded seven tackles and had two interceptions. Ricky Adams had seven tackles and a sack. Kyle Boyd and Tyler Hall each had seven tackles. Hoxie takes to the road to face the Earle Bulldogs on Friday. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
