Mustangs earn homecoming winNathan Hibbard
Sebastian Irvin ran for 133 yards and three touchdowns as the Hoxie Mustangs rolled to a 41-0 homecoming win over the Corning Bobcats.
Irvin's first score came on a 41-yard run with 9:37 to play in the first quarter. Jeremy Anglin kicked the extra point to put the Mustangs ahead 7-0.
Hoxie extended their lead later in the period on a 35-yard scoring run by Dillon Williamson. Anglin's PAT was good for a 14-0 Mustang advantage.
The Mustang offense continued to roll in the second quarter. Irvin scored on a two-yard run with 7:30 to play in the half and Anglin scored from a yard out in the final minute of the half as Hoxie took a commanding 28-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Irvin recorded his third touchdown of the game on a 10-yard run in the third period. Devin Roberts added a 38-yard touchdown run in the final period for the Mustangs.
"I was proud of the way we executed in all areas of the game on an extremely muddy field. I thought we took a step forward in the way we want to play," said Hoxie head coach Tom Sears.
In addition to Irvin, Williamson rushed for 96 yards on eight attempts. Colton Bennett rushed four times for 35 yards. Garrett Hart had two carries for 27 yards. Anglin had three carries for 14 yards, and Kyle Boyd carried once for one yard.
Anglin completed his only pass attempt of the night for 29 yards to D.J. Kendrick. Anglin also kicked five extra points.
On defense, Blake Snow led Hoxie with 19 tackles, while Chris Montelongo recorded 13 stops.
With the win, the Mustangs improved to 2-1 in 3A-3 conference play and 3-3 overall. Hoxie travels to Piggott for a conference game against the Mohawks on Friday night. Game time is 7:30.
