Walnut Ridge's Logan Gaither wraps up a Salem player as teammate Tristan Fernandez moves in to assist. The Bobcats posted a 12-7 homecoming win.

The Walnut Ridge defense came up big in key situations, as the Bobcats defeated the Salem Greyhounds 12-7 in front of a homecoming crowd Friday night at Sexton Field.

With Salem driving deep into Bobcat territory in the first quarter, Walnut Ridge's Bennett Dudley picked off a Greyhound pass and returned it 60 yards to the Salem 20-yard line to set up the Cats' first score.

Mustangs fall to Rivercrest

The Hoxie Mustangs fell behind Rivercrest early en route to dropping a 30-13 decision to the Colts in 3A-3 conference football action Friday night at Wilson.

Lady Mustangs defeat Piggott

The Hoxie Lady Mustangs senior high volleyball team defeated Piggott Thursday at Hicks Gymnasium. Piggott won the first two games of the match 25-17, 25-22, before Hoxie came on to win the final three games 25-18, 25-20, 15-8.

The Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats hosted Brookland in high school volleyball action on Sept. 28.
