The McCrory Jaguars returned the game's opening kickoff for a touchdown and never looked back en route to a 48-0 shutout victory over the Walnut Ridge Bobcats in senior high football action Friday night at McCrory.

The Jaguars added two more scores in the opening period and led 20-0 after one quarter.

In the second period, McCrory returned a punt 45 yards for a touchdown, returned two interceptions for scores and added an offensive touchdown to take a 48-0 lead into halftime.

The second half was played with the mercy rule in effect, as McCrory played backups for the remainder of the game.

"We got beat by the conference front-runner. They are an extremely talented team with offensive weapons and size up front," said Walnut Ridge head coach Larry Treadway. "Our focus now is to move on and get ready to make a run at the playoffs."

Offensively for the Bobcats, Teague Phillips rushed for 50 yards on 14 carries. Luke Holloway completed six-of-15 passes, for 49 yards. Logan Gaither had three receptions for 27 yards.

Dylan Wills led the defense with eight tackles.

Walnut Ridge fell to 2-2 overall and 2-1 in 2A-3 conference play. The Bobcats host Salem for homecoming on Friday. Homecoming festivities start at 6:30 p.m., with kickoff set for 7.
