Housing authorities
receive grant funds
Gretchen Hunt
Editor
Barbara White, executive director of the housing authorities in Hoxie and Imboden, has announced that both authorities have received Green Communities Grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The funds were awarded through the Capital Fund Recovery Competition grant program.
"There were only six in Arkansas that received grants, and Imboden and Hoxie received two of the six," White said. "We are very excited."
Imboden
The Imboden Housing Authority was awarded $83,800 to make upgrades to its 40 apartments. As part of the project all new energy-efficient refrigerators will be purchased.
The city of Imboden is contributing the $4,190 leverage amount required to receive the funds.
Hoxie
The Hoxie Housing Authority will receive $48,000. White said new power-flush, low-flow handicap commodes will be added to the 20 apartments in Hoxie as part of the project.
The $2,400 leverage amount required to match the grant has been provided by the city of Hoxie.
"I am so grateful to both cities for providing the funding to help us be able to obtain these grants," White said.
She said both projects will be bid out in the near future, and interested contractors can watch for a legal notice in this newspaper.
