Two die in wreckGretchen Hunt
A two-vehicle accident on Sunday at 6:12 p.m. resulted in two deaths.
Lindsay Rogers, 18, and Makenzie Denham, five, were killed when a 2004 Pontiac Sunfire driven by Rogers struck a pickup truck head-on.
Rogers was a 2009 graduate of Hoxie High School, and Denham was a kindergarten student at Hoxie Elementary.
Hoxie Supt. Dennis Truxler said in addition to the school counselors, additional counselors from Hometown Behavioral Health were on campus Tuesday.
Denham was a student in Charlotte Meyers' classroom. "Several staff and administrators met in Ms. Charlotte's room and shared tears, hugs and prayers," Truxler said. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to Makenzie's and Lindsey's families."
According to Trooper Jeremy Conner with the Arkansas State Police, the accident occurred when Rogers' vehicle, which was southbound on Highway 67 in Minturn, drifted into the northbound lane into the path of a 1998 GMC pickup, driven by Michael Tarno, 29, of Pocahontas.
The report states that both vehicles veered into the southbound lane and hit head-on.
Denham and Rogers were pronounced dead by Lawrence County Coroner Chris Warden at the scene. Tarno was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released.
Funeral arrangements for both Denham and Rogers are under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home.
