Addison Marie Denton

Jerrod Denton and Jennifer Simmons of Walnut Ridge have announced the birth of a daughter on Aug. 28, 2009, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro. The baby weighed four pounds, 12 ounces, and has been named Addison Marie Denton.

Grandparents are Pat and Jerry Denton of Jonesboro, Ron and Phyllis Turner of Egypt and Dewayne Simmons of Pocahontas. She is the great-granddaughter of Maureen Simmons and Ruby Foreman, both of Egypt, and James and Margrett Shelton of Jonesboro.

Nicholas Ryan Brown

Nicholas Ryan "Nick" Brown, 21, of Walnut Ridge, died Sept. 14, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Kay Brown; and his step-grandfather, Richard Airey Grammer Sr.

Survivors include his wife, Amber Collins Brown; two daughters, Cameron Collins and Haylee Kay Brown, both of the home; his mother, Samantha Berry, Harrison; his father, Raymond Brown, Manila; his stepfather, Richard Airey Grammer Jr.; four brothers, Richard Brown, Blytheville, Bryan Hatley, Gosnell, Richard Grammer III, Walnut Ridge, and Jason Brown, Manila; a sister, Mariah Grammer, Mountain Home; and his grandparents, Ray Grammer, Nollan and Scarlet Richardson and Juanita Grammer.

Funeral was Thursday at 2 p.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Mike Richardson officiating. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Myrl Dunham

Myrl Dunham, 87, of Hoxie, died Sept. 22, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Born Sept. 26, 1921, at Cord, she was the daughter of Charles and Essie Wilson Lane. She was a farmer and worked at a sawmill. She was a member of the Hoxie Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Orvil Presswood and Orville Shackelford; an infant daughter; four brothers; two sisters; and a grandson, Boogie Smith.

Survivors include a son, A.C. Presswood, Fairmont, Ind.; six daughters, Betty French, Walnut Ridge, Darlene Pearson, Black Rock, Brenda Lenahan, Memphis, Mary Sabella, Florida, Patsy Peters, Benton, Mo., and Vickie Smith, Swifton; a brother, Verl Lane, Lexington, Tenn.; a sister, Oleta Randolph, Tennessee; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral is Friday at 2 p.m. at the Hoxie Church of Christ with Darrell Douglas officiating. Burial will be in Calvin Crossing Cemetery, near Alicia, under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Bishop, Billy Ray Meadows, Russell Lenahan, Bobby Shackelford, Lance Shackelford and K.L. Williams. Honorary pallbearer will be Heath Clyatt.

Visitation is Thursday from 6-8 p.m.

Lois Leviathan Hall

Lois Leviathan Hall, 86, of Imboden, died Sept. 14, 2009.

Born Sept. 6, 1923, she was a member of the Baptist Church at Imboden.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, James Leon Franks and Johnnie Hall; and her parents, Alvin and Betty Wells Cude.

Survivors include a son, Harold Franks, Imboden; and a sister, Eleanor Ruth Hobbs and husband Lloyd, Ferndale, Mich.

Funeral was Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Dillinger Funeral Home in Newport. Burial was in Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Leslie J. Hathcoat

Leslie J. Hathcoat, 93, of Ravenden, died Sept. 16, 2009, at Five Rivers Medical Center in Pocahontas.

Born May 16, 1916, in Ravenden, he was the son of J.M. and Minervia Haynes Hathcoat. He was a carpenter and farmer and was a member of Opposition Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Leva Morris and Letha Bragg; and a grandson, Roger Baldridge Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Idell Holder Hathcoat, whom he married Nov. 27, 1937, in Ravenden; two daughters, Wilma Cooper and husband Gary, Salem, and Debby Baldridge and husband Roger, Ravenden; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Opposition Church of Christ in Opposition with minister Jim Inness and Winston Meeks officiating. Burial was in Opposition Cemetery under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service.

Pallbearers were Thomas Cooper, Chuck Ludwig, Kevin Scribner, Hunter Morris, Jason Baldridge and Danny Holder.

Ruby Maureen Lawrence

Ruby Maureen Lawrene, 90, of Maumelle, formerly of Imboden, died Sept. 19, 2009, in Maumelle.

Born March 14, 1919, she was the daughter of the late William and Elsie Dent Dickson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Lennie Fortson, Lila Bell Snow and Wilma Trenholm; a son, Steve Lawrence; and a granddaughter, Julie Lawrence.

Survivors include a son, Pete Lawrence and wife Barbara, Maumelle; a daughter, Peggy Roberts and husband Ferne, Antioch, Calif.; a brother, Charles Dickson, Imboden; three sisters, Velma Gore, St. Louis, Gladys Malone, Annieville, and Melba Cooper, Southaven, Miss.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Jerry Clements officiating. Burial was in Dent Cemetery under the direction of McNabb Funeral Home.

Nancy Norwood

Nancy Buchann Norwood, 66, of Farmington, Mo., formerly of Sedgwick, died Sept. 19, 2009.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Louann Pender; and her parents, Yancy Buchann Edna Medici.

Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Pender, of the home; two sons, Chris Pender, of the home, and Jeffery Pender, Batesville; and six grandchildren, Amy Pender, Jessica Pender, Joshua Pender, Nichole Pender, Tiffany Pender and Christopher Pender.

The body was cremated. No services are planned.

Clara Wallace Lucas Schutz

Clara Wallace Lucas Schutz, 100, of Smithville, died Sept. 20, 2009, at White River Medical Center in Batesville.

Born Dec. 3, 1908, in Monette, she was the daughter of John Morgan and Lela Mae Brown Wallace. She was a homemaker and a member of Rock Hill Baptist Church in Powhatan.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Lucas; her second husband, Bill Schutz; six sons, Jack Lucas, David Lucas, Otis Lucas, James Earl Lucas, Albert Lucas and W.T. Schutz; three daughters, Mary Katherine Lucas, Geneva Bell Rickett and Laura Holden; two brothers, Floyd Wallace and Aubrey Wallace; and six sisters, Ida Howell, Vivian Prestiage, Lela Mae Erwin, Happy Word, Desie Johnson and Audrey Booth.

Survivors include three sons, Buster Lucas, Osceola, Mo., Raymond Schutz, Charlotte, and Glynn Schutz, Grand View, Mo.; three daughters, Mary Mason, Oak Grove, Mo., Betty McAdams, Denmark, and Carolyn Newsome, Indiana; 34 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral is Thursday at 10 a.m. at Rock Hill Baptist Church in Powhatan with Bro. Roger Brumley and Dwight Booth officiating. Burial will be in Center Grove Cemetery at Charlotte under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.

Pallbearers will be Scott Harmon, Bill McAdams, Donald Price, Chad Kennedy, Arthur Booth and Sam Blevins Jr. Honorary pallbearer is Sam Blevins.

Visitation is tonight from 5-8 at the funeral home.

Buddy Whitmire

Buddy Whitmire, 66, of Walnut Ridge, died Sept. 17, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 4, 1943, at Strawberry, he was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a retired businessman, a barber and a member of the Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his father, Boyd Whitmire; a brother, Joe Whitmire; and two sisters, Nina Warnick and Ruby Freer.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Pratt Whitmire, whom he married March 26, 1962; two sons, Mike Whitmire, Miami, and Mitch Whitmire, Smithville; a daughter, Cristy Phillips, Walnut Ridge; his mother, Christeen Whitmire, Walnut Ridge; three brothers, Dizzy Whitmire, Walnut Ridge, and Bob Whitmire and Chuck Whitmire, both of Hoxie; two sisters, Wilma Veteto and Lavan Nicholas, both of Walnut Ridge, and nine grandchildren, Crystal Warden, Teague Phillips, Colin Phillips, Sarah Whitmire, Hannah Whitmire, Cody Whitmire, Shelby Whitmire, Katie Whitmire and Rachel Whitmire.

Funeral was Sunday at 2 p.m. in Bryan Chapel with A.J. Henry, Lloyd Clark and Don House officiating. Burial was in Ward Cemetery, near Strawberry, under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Ray Roper, Eddy Roper, David Blakeney, Doug Arnold, Ray Dacus, Ed Golden, Danny Kopp, Jarrod Whitmire and Gary Morris. Honorary pallbearers were Bob Anderson, Lynn Nicholson, J.E. Sauls, Dale Hancock, Dan Poindexter, Randal Fry and Jason Andrews.
