Lady Cats beat BayNathan HibbardStaff Writer The Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats opened the 2009 volleyball season by defeating Bay in four games on Aug. 25 at Sharum Gymnasium. Scores were 25-21, 14-25, 25-9, 25-10. Ashley Baker was 22-of-22 serving with four aces and three digs, while Katie Lewis added nine kills and three blocks for Walnut Ridge. Walnut Ridge won the junior high match 29-27, 25-16. Ashlyn Cothern was six-of-seven serving with an ace, three assists and four kills. Sebrina Knight was nine-of-10 serving with two aces, four kills and one dig. Hannah Massey was seven-of-eight serving with two aces, a kill and four digs. Caroline Kelley nine-of-10 serving, with two aces and one kill. Walnut Ridge won a junior B contest 25-12, while Bay won a senior B game 25-16.
The Harrisburg Lady Hornets swept Walnut Ridge in senior girls volleyball on Thursday at Harrisburg. Scores of the three games were 25-18, 25-13, 25-15. In junior high action, Harrisburg defeated Walnut Ridge two games to one. The junior Lady Bobcats won the first game 25-20 before Harrisburg rallied to take the next two by scores of 25-13 and 25-11. Harrisburg won a senior high B game 25-12 and a junior B contest 25-10.
